I hope you'll enjoy this short excerpt from my new contemporary romance, Hereafter. It's a modern day ghost story where the impossible somehow becomes possible...

Angel’s body tingled. Her skin rippled with electricity, and she recognized the signs that she’d be transported soon.
Yes. Finally. She closed her eyes, wishing she could rush the transition from her world to his. Cool air prickled her skin and she stood in the man’s dark apartment. With moonlight shining through the sheers, she could make out his form on the sofa.
He jumped up and faced her.
She wanted to speak, but she couldn’t.
“The electricity went off again,” he said.
She frowned.
He stepped closer. “Ghosts don’t exist.”
No. He couldn’t banish her again. She needed something in this world. The lights flickered, sizzled, and then went off again.
Please don’t tell me to go away; it makes me go away. She might not have a voice in this world, but she could at least think it. She would not go, not when potential answers waited in this place.
The man stepped closer. “What are you doing? Angie, why do you keep coming here?”
Don’t tell me to leave…don’t tell me to leave. Pictures flew into her mind. People smiling and laughing. A tree in the corner with white lights and boxes under it….
He’d called her Angie.
“You know me?” Her words came out a whisper, but at least they finally came out. Tears tracked down her cheeks. The electricity flickered on, and then, stayed off. The air stopped sizzling. She blinked to adjust her eyes to the darkness again.
“Christ, this can’t be happening.” He moved his fingers over something in his hand and then pocketed it.
She closed the distance between them and grasped his upper arms, pleading him with her eyes because her voice had left her again.
“Yes, I know you.” He glanced away and looked out the window, let out a huff of breath, and then gazed at her. “Your name is Angie Barsotti and you used to live here.”
No wonder the place felt so familiar. Her spirits lifted. He could help her find out who she was, help her find out what was going on.
“And,” he dragged a hand through his hair. “You died and I don’t believe in ghosts.”
Cold air, cold as ice tore through her, ripping her from the apartment.

I think December is a romantic month because for most of us it's a reeeeally cold one. At least here in Montana it usually is. lol (Been really warm this year). Something about the cold makes folks want to get close and with the holidays people seem to be more interested in companionship. I remember the beginning of my 'courtship' phase with my husband involving lots of sitting in his warm car fogging up the windows. *giggle* Yep, quite romantic indeed.

Happy holidays Joya!

December screams family and love! It's the time to celebrate both and to share ourselves with the ones we care about. People seem to find the courage to pop the question in December. The true meaning of Christmas is sharing love which makes it romantic. I was marred 2 days before Christmas. At the time it was a great idea.

Thanks for the opportunity to share and explore your site.

December is definately the most romantic month because in the snowy nights you have to cuddle with someone to keep warm, sit by the fire, drink hot chocolate!

I love December but it's never been much of a "romantic" month for me. Ha. My husband & I always have a good time in December but there's always so much going on, that I have a hard time relaxing. Work is crazy, getting over Thanksgiving and getting ready for Christmas is stressful sometimes, and living in Louisiana, our weather is always bonkers. Ha. But I can imagine playing in the snow, cuddling by the fireplace, snuggling outside wrapped up in blankets... :)

Thanks for joining this great hop!!

I think it is romantic for several reasons..the cold makes you want to cuddle. The whole thing is based around family so it makes people think about starting their own and having kids soon. Plus there are all the parties and no one wants to go alone. Also everyone is nicer and it is more fun to be out and meeting new people then.

Why is december romantic? Well think about it.. it already holds a depth of magic.. Christmas / Yule magic.
Many people don't go out and about when it's cold, so what's the next best thing.. sitting around a fire, talking, getting to know people..and viola

I think it is as my hubby and I had our church wedding on the 18th.. It was cold as hell but beautiful with evergreen centerpeices with silver and blue accents... Hubby was in his Blues along with our Best man my girls wore red or black and the other grooms men wore black suits... It was during a snow storm lol so i plan on having a redo but can't say i didn't have a beautiful wedding with the man i love.

December is a time for giving and receiving. There is a different sizzle in the air that surrounds many people making it romantic and many times you see the true giving nature of people giving to those who in need.

One of my favorite Christmas Romance Books is The Untamable Rogue by Annette Blair! The story is about Ashford Blackburne Fifth Earl and he has to get married and get his willing bride pregnant before Christmas or his grandfather won’t let him inherit his money. Ash truly needs to inherit the money because his late father squandered it all away and he is taking care of his mother. After getting stood up at the alter, again, Ash and his friends go to the local pub where the owner plays a drunken Ash in a card game…his consolation prize is the pubs daughter Larkin, who he wants to get ride of. Ash has to learn to forgive…Larkin has to learn how to trust…can two completely different people find love together. This is a cute, extremely funny, romantic story with a surprise Christmas ending!

Why do I love December? Well, in terms of the external things, I love the crisper weather, the gorgeous lights and holiday decorations, the sight of people hurrying through the streets loaded down with packages from all the department stores, the fact that even in a big city people tend to smile a little more even though they may feel grumpy. In terms of the internal things, I love the fact that it's the spiritual elements that most of us tend to concentrate on in the period between Thanksgiving and the New Year, the fact that it may only be for a brief time, but during that time we more often think about giving, loving and being with those we love. Okay, I admit it, I also adore the food and drink. Eggnog, yum!
