Blog Swap: Tara Quinn's Delicious Delay #multicultural

Welcome to Tara Quinn! Tara and I are taking over each other's blogs today since we both have new releases. Get to know Tara and her books a little better here today, and then I hope you'll stop by Tara's blog because she asked me some very interesting questions on the interview on her blog!

Welcome, Tara! Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi Joya and thanks for having me over! I would describe myself as a newbie romance author. My very first novella was published about a year ago, and since then I’ve written three other novellas (all romance, but each falling into a different subgenre—sci-fi/post apocalyptic, fantasy, suspense, and contemporary). My contemporary romance, Delicious Delay, was released by Decadent Publishing a little over two weeks ago.

Wow...first of all HUGE congrats on your successful year! That's amazing. What inspires you to write?

Reading other books. Whenever a new book by Nalini Singh or Kresley Cole comes out, I inhale it, and then I go back and reread their older books. This usually results in a “I wish I could write like that one day” moment, after which I flip open my laptop and start practicing.
That's a great inspiration. Readers make the best writers, right? What would be a *perfect* day for you?
Okay, this is really boring, but here goes:
08:30 – Wake up to the smell of cooked breakfast and hot tea (courtesy of husband).
09:00 – Take care of all the early morning essentials.
09:30 – Take a pot of hot tea to the balcony and start writing.
12:00 – Go to the Gym for a Les Mills exercise class of some kind
13:00 – Replenish the calories I just burned.
14:30 – After a shower and change of clothes, continue writing (interspersed with online “breaks”).
17:00 – Call it quits for the day, settle on the couch, and fire up the Xbox.
18:30 – Dinner (with cheesecake for desert)
20:00 – Change into PJs and watch TV until it’s time to sleep.

Haha! I don't think that's boring...sounds pretty fun. And relaxing. Can you tell us about the setting of your Delicious Delay? Why did you choose it?
It’s an unspecified Middle Eastern Airport inspired by the one in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I was stranded there for eight hours and decided it would be a perfect spot for a short erotic romance.
That's very cool! A great way to make the best of your delay, too. What's the most romantic thing any has done for you?
After watching me struggle to type Tower in the Woods (my first published novella) on his iPad, my husband snuck out of the house and bought me a Macbook Air.

Very sweet of your hubby! Where can readers get your book?
I’ve consolidated all the links on my website (http://taraquan.com/delicious-delay/), but below are the main ones.

Thanks for stopping by today, Tara, and for doing this fun blog swap!

Delicious Delay - Blurb:
Stranded in a Middle Eastern airport, Michelle Day finds herself the object of interest for an abrasive, but all-too-sexy stranger—a stranger who tempts her with the forbidden in a land where indecency could get her killed. But how does one say no to such a deliciously, relentless pursuit?
Khalid Al Dehri takes one look at the red-headed spitfire in the business class lounge and knew he’d either been transported to heaven—or hell. Her tart response to his surliness intrigues him beyond all propriety and the longer he spends in her company, the more he can’t deny his forbidden attraction. But will she explore the sensuality between them or will society’s rules keep them apart?
Excerpt:
He grinned. “So I have a proposal.”

She tried to get her breathing under control, without much success. “Why am I sure it’s an indecent one?”
He motioned his head toward the far end of the lounge. Latticed wooden screens gave that particular section more privacy. In an L-shaped room, the tucked-away location prevented a direct line of sight from the dining or reception areas.
He got up and offered her his hand. She hesitated for a long moment before taking it. With faltering footsteps, she followed him. More private or not, limits on how far this could go existed due to them being in an airport lounge. Since her self-control had chosen today to take a vacation, she appreciated the imposed constraint.
He lowered himself onto a plush leather sofa deep inside the cordoned area. With walls on either side and screens strategically angled, the space seemed to have been designed as a spot for people to nap.
On the brink of crossing a dangerous line, she hesitated. “What exactly do you have in mind?”
“I’m just giving you the opportunity to have your way with me,” he offered, his face the picture of innocence.
She hadn’t expected that answer. “I don’t quite follow.”
He kicked one of his legs out and tangled it with hers. She stumbled and instinctively moved her hands forward to brace herself. Her palms flattened over his hard muscled chest when she landed.
She traced the shape of his pectorals. “What do you do all day? Work out?”
He chuckled, the low rumble all male. “I have access to the best personal trainers money can buy. They help keep me honest.”
She shook her head in disbelief as the man preened. “Have you heard of a concept called humility?”

“It’s not one of my virtues,” he admitted. “I’ve never understood the point.”
She sighed. “It’s the polite thing to do.”
He placed his forefinger under her chin and tipped her head up, his expression playful. “So what is a sweet, polite, goody two shoes doing on top of me?”

Resolutions is Now Available in Print #HonorGuardSeries

Welcome Teri Riggs today! Resolutions, one of the books in Teri's Honor Guard series, is now available in print. Hope you'll check it out. I'm off to get my copy now (and is that a sexy cover, or what?)!

Honor Guard Series
Resolutions
by Teri Riggs

DEA agent Eve Taylor has had her fill of alpha males. When Resolutions’ operative and former lover, Dillon “Mac” McKenna, threatened her hard-earned independence, she ran. On a mission to gather evidence against a Colombian drug-lord, Eve discovers the drug-lord is helping terrorists plan an attack on American soil. Before she can escape with the vital information, she’s captured and comes face to face with her mortality…

As a teen, Mac watched his family fall apart after his mother died doing dangerous U.N. work. The possibility of losing Eve to a mission ignited an overwhelming need to protect her. When he forced her to choose him or her job, she walked away. Two years later, it seems all his nightmares have come true and he’s tasked with rescuing her from a Colombian prison. Mac has never stopped loving Eve, but does he dare risk his heart when he’s so terrified of losing…

On the run, Mac and Eve must learn to trust each other again in order to stay alive.

Note: Resolutions is a private black ops agency specializing in the near-impossible extractions of kidnap victims, hostages, and all forms of intelligence other agencies have failed to retrieve.

Enjoy the following excerpt for RESOLUTIONS:

Beefy hands wrenched Eve awake from a fevered sleep, pulled her from the cell, and shoved her into a musty-smelling hallway. I’m being moved? A guard pushed her with one hand, keeping a tight grip on an AK-47 rifle with his other.

Her shoulder throbbed in perfect cadence with the pains shooting through her broken wrist, and she had one badass headache from being punched in the face a few too many times. Using her good hand, she walked fingers across one cheek, then the other. The right side was totally numb. Her eye had swollen shut, and she couldn’t see a damn thing out of it. She ran her tongue across her teeth and tasted the tart, copper flavor of blood. Three teeth loose. Well, at least they’re still in place.

In spite of the relentless pain, she stayed determined to survive whatever Mendoza dished out. She wasn’t a quitter. No, sir. Duncan Falls, Iowa didn’t grow quitters. Eve ignored the constant ache in her ribs, courtesy of a guard’s overzealous kick, and took in a deep breath. She willed herself to stay alert, to keep pushing. Escape. Third times the charm.

Eve slapped the guard’s dirty hand. “Hey, Pedro, stop being so damned pushy. Where we going anyway? We got a hot date I’ve forgotten about?”

He looked puzzled then shoved her again.

“Don’t understand English, do you, Diego? Bet you understand this.” Eve drove her elbow into the guard’s face. Thick rubbery cartilage gave, and she whooped triumphantly.

Blood squirted from his nose and he screamed.

Eve stepped back. “Yep, I’m pretty sure you understand that.”

Unable to grab the guard’s assault rifle, she clutched her injured shoulder, and took off in a slow jog, no longer able to push any harder.

Her escape was short lived.

About Sidelined Afterlife
Psychic and medium Veronica Matthews hates being able to communicate with the dead and the nearly departed.  What good is it if she can’t lead the police to the victims of violent crimes before they die? But when her neighbor comes to her for help, she’s torn—until she understands that the ghost haunting him is more dangerous than any she’s encountered….

After losing his wife in a tragic accident, ER doctor Hunter Anderson’s only solace is his work and a ghost is jeopardizing that. Turning to his neighbor seems like his only choice, but spending time with the passionate woman, and her sassy attitude, might do more than save his life…

She can’t risk her heart. He’s afraid to love and lose again. Can a ghost help these two souls to live again?

Excerpt:
“I am an idiot. The biggest idiot ever. If you want me to pierce something for you, to prove I’m an idiot, I have some sterilized instruments upstairs in my apartment.”
Her tongue poked against her cheek, signaling a laugh that wanted to erupt. Suddenly, he really wanted to be the one who could make her laugh. “Maybe I could do your lower lip?”
Her short laugh erupted. A sweet, melodic sound that filled the small apartment.
His gaze stayed on that full mouth and he lifted his fingers closer, compelled to touch her.      She stared at him with wide eyes as he traced the corner of her mouth lightly with his finger.
“I’m a liar. I could never tarnish something as beautiful as this.”
Christ. What a line. Where had those words come from? But he meant it.
Her breath was hot against his finger as he traced the line of her lower lip. Her gaze held his. His stomach growled again, breaking the spell, and she blinked and leaned against the sofa.
“You know what? We never had dessert,” she said.
He had room for dessert. But not the food kind. He swallowed to quell his appetite for her. “Uh…how about I make an ice cream run? Then we’ll get to work.” Enough of this temptation. He needed to get away from her, from this pull she had on his body and emotions.

About this book:
Divorce paints a scarlet letter on her back when she returns to the culture-driven society of Mauritius. This same spotlight shines as a beacon of hope for the man who never stopped loving her. Can the second time around be the right one for these former teenage sweethearts?
Indian-origin Lara Reddy left London after her husband dumps her for a more accommodating uterus—at least, that’s what his desertion feels like. Bumping into him and his pregnant new missus doesn’t help matters any, and she thus jumps on a prestigious job offer. The kicker? The job is in Mauritius, the homeland of her parents, and a society she ran away from over a decade earlier.
But once there, Lara has no escape. Not from the gossip, the contempt, the harassing matchmaking...and certainly not from the man she hoped never to meet again. The boy she’d loved and lost—white Mauritian native, Eric Marivaux.
Back when they were teens, Eric left her, and Lara vowed she’d never let herself be hurt again. Today, they are both adults, and facing the same crossroads they’d stood at so many years earlier.
Lara now stands on the other side of Mauritian society. Will this be the impetus she needs to take a chance on Eric and love again?

About the author

Zee Monodee

Stories about love, life, relationships... in a melting-pot of culture
Zee is an author who grew up on a fence – on one side there was modernity and the global world, on the other there was culture and traditions. Putting up with the culture for half of her life, one day she decided she'd stand tall on her wall and dip toes every now and then into both sides of her non-conventional upbringing.

From this resolution spanned a world of adaptation and learning to live on said wall. The realization also came that many other young women of the world were on their own fence.
This particular position became her favorite when she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of writing – her heroines all sit 'on a fence', whether cultural or societal, in today's world or in times past, and face dilemmas about life and love.
Hailing from the multicultural island of Mauritius, Zee is a degree holder in Communications Science. She is a head-over-heels wife, in-over-her-head mum to a tween son, best-buddy-stepmum to a teenage lad, an incompetent domestic goddess, eternal dreamer, and an absolute, shameless bookholic. When she isn’t penning more stories and/or managing the Ubuntu line at Decadent Publishing, you can bet you’ll find her with her nose in her tablet, ‘drinking in’ a good book.

Tidbits about this book & series
- The Island Girls trilogy follows the 3 Hemant sisters – Lara, Neha, Diya – over the span of the 2000-2010 decade, chronicling the changing face of the Mauritian society over that crucial period.
- Mauritius, where this trilogy takes place, is a small tropical island in the southern Indian Ocean. There are no natives, and the land has been entirely populated by immigrants. Under Dutch rule in the 17th century; French rule until 1810; then a British colony from 1810 to 1968 when it reached independence, the island is a mix of races and religions.

Caution! Researching Ghosts Can Lead To Sleepless Nights. #DecadentJourney #DecadentAuthors

Welcome to a fun celebration of Decadent Publishing!

My journey with Decadent started with a ghost. Yep! That's right. A beautiful ghost that haunted an apartment where a handsome, yet tortured, hero lived. HEREAFTER (Book 1, Hauntings at Inner Harbor) is the first in a triology about a haunted Baltimore apartment building. The story has a very unusual twist to it, one that has surprised a lot of readers. And boy, do I love surprising readers! :) Researching ghosts and psychic abilities was a lot of fun. I watched almost every episode of "Ghost Hunters," trying to get my details right. I also read lots of ghosts books and blogs. Sometimes this got a little scary. Especially when I stayed up late when the rest of my family was asleep. But I liked getting scared! It helped me understand how someone who saw a ghost might feel.
The generous folks and my fellow authors at Decadent have been so supportive. And now, I'm thrilled to announce that the second story in the series, ALTERED FREQUENCY (Book 2, Hauntings at Inner Harbor), will be releasing soon. It features a Baltimore DJ and a Baltimore policeman. I visited a local radio station to get a first-hand experience of what a DJ does. Talk about fun!!
And to continue my journey at Decadent, it's time to finish my final revisions of the third story and get it submitted. My journey continues! Thanks, Decadent.

When by-the-numbers accountant Rob Morrison, a skeptic of all things paranormal, moves into a new apartment and discovers it is haunted by the corporeal ghost of a beautiful woman, he musthastily reconsider his beliefs and revisit his painful past.
With no memory of her time on earth, Angie Barsotti doesn’t understand why she’s compelled to visit the same apartment every night as a ghost caught between two worlds. If she’s to have a chance to move on, she needs to find the missing pieces of her life and death through the man who lives there…if only he’d believe in her.
Together they struggle to find the truth about her death and stumble upon a very pleasurable way to time travel, hopeful they can prevent her death. But someone doesn’t want them to discover the truth. And if she’s human again, will she have any memories of her time as a ghost…and more importantly, will she remember the man who helped her find her way?

It's Okay to Lean on Someone Else Once in a While #SnippetSunday

Welcome to another Snippet Sunday! In this excerpt from Hereafter (Book 1, Hauntings at Inner Harbor), Angie discovers it doesn't make her weak to accept help. Sometimes we all need someone to lean on.

He lifted her chin with a finger. "I promise, I’ll find out what you need to know. I’ll do everything I can to help you."

Angie smiled, surprised that she could when her heart swelled with misery. If she could find out what happened on her own, she would. But she couldn’t. She needed Rob. The expression on his face, the sadness in his eyes told her he wanted to know her story almost as badly as she did.

Hereafter, a contemporary romance with a ghostly twist, is available now:

Sex With a Ghost? Possible? #SixSunday #ghosts

Well, folks. This is it. The last Six Sentence Sunday. It's been a place where writers share six sentences from their published or unpublished books.
Thank you so much, Sara Brookes and your team of volunteers for heading up this fun Sunday event for the past years. What a great idea...I'll miss it and I know lots of readers and authors will miss it, too. Thank you!

In this snippet from my just-released novel, HEREAFTER, Rob and Angie decide it's time to give in to their physical need for each other.
But still...she's a ghost...he's a human. How do such things work?

Whatever she was, whatever form this woman used to present herself to him, she was more real right now than any woman he’d ever been with. She didn’t hide her desire, she responded to his touch as if it were the only thing that mattered. He wanted to be her world, wanted to make her world better.
Slowly, he lifted the billowy gown over her head, exposing her perfect breasts. He glanced into her eyes for confirmation that what he was doing was okay. She smiled and her eyes fluttered closed.

HEREAFTER is available now

Welcome author Kiru Taye and Island Bound #NewRelease

Please welcome talented author Kiru Taye. She has a hot new release from Decadent Publishing and she’s sharing some fun details about herself today as well as an excerpt from her book.
Hello, everyone. My name is Kiru and I write historical, contemporary as well as paranormal romances. My stories are sensual, with strong, passionate characters and the settings are atmospheric and exotic, usually in Africa.
My debut historical romance His Treasure (Men of Valor series, book 1) is a LR Cafe Book of 2011 award-winner and also a runner-up at the Swirl Awards 2012 (novella category).
When I’m not writing, I love reading, hanging out with family/friends or travelling. Born in Nigeria, I currently live in the UK with husband and children.
Wow, you’ve seen a lot of the world…very exciting! What inspires your writing?
Different things inspire me. A movie, TV programme or watching people interacting. Last month I was coming home from the school run and heard an advert on the radio for a theatre show. The title inspired the current story for my work-in-progress paranormal romance.
When I’m actually writing I prefer solitude—no music, no noise—just peace and quiet.
Ahhh, solitude! I can agree with that. What would a *perfect* writing day be for you?
It’s the simple things for me:
Wake up smiling. Get the kids ready for school. Drop them off. Come home. Write about 5000 words. Respond to conversations with readers/fans on social media. Read royalty statement and develop an even bigger smile. Pick kids up and they’ve had a great day. Kids sail through homework. Cook dinner. Pick hubby from train station and he’s had a great day. Get kids to bed. Cuddle up with hubby. Go to sleep with a huge smile. ;)
LOL about the royalty statement! Can you tell us about the setting of your upcoming release? Why did you choose it?
Island Bound is a sensual, contemporary romance novella, set in Brass Island, Nigeria. It’s the story of Christy and Joshua who are on the verge of a marriage breakdown and how they get their second chance at a life together.
Most of my stories are set in Africa, Nigeria especially. For Island Bound, although the couple actually lives in Abuja which is the capital city of Nigeria, I chose Brass Island as the setting because they needed to get away from their normal everyday lives to be able to work on their relationship.
And where best but the remote island of Brass on the southernmost tip of Nigeria just by the Atlantic Ocean. The sea is crystal clear, the sands are powdery, the sky azure. And even better there is a lush green forest reserve not far filled with rare and endangered species. The only way to get there at the moment is by boat.
Oh wow! That sounds absolutely gorgeous! And speaking of romance…what’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?
Last year for my birthday, my husband surprised me with a long weekend trip to New York. I didn’t know where we were going until I boarded the plane. That was a lovely present as I’d always wanted to visit New York. The hotel was bang in the middle of Manhattan and I got to shop at Fifth Avenue. Heavenly. J
Well with a romantic husband like that, it’s no wonder you write romance! Where can readers order your book, Kiru?

About Island Bound
When Christy Inemi-Spiff discovers that the man she vowed to love and honor has no such feelings for her, she’s determined to cut her losses and move on with her life. A quick, quiet divorce is all she wishes for Christmas.
However, Joshua has other ideas. He’s not ready to walk away yet, especially when he doesn’t understand why Christy wants out of their marriage. So he demands she agree to spend a quiet Christmas on a remote African Island with him, hoping they can salvage their relationship. If she still wants a divorce after these two weeks, he will let her go. But not before he’s had his fill of her.
But with the sparking tension between them, and the secrets behind the disintegration of their marriage threatening to explode, will either of them get their wish? Or will this season of good will show them what really lies at the bottom of their hearts?
Here's an excerpt from Island Bound:
“Why are you doing this?” she challenged. Her emotions rolled, making her feel unbalanced. It had been a long three months. And it seemed like today was only going to get worse.
“Christy, you know the reason. If you stopped long enough and thought about it hard, in your heart, you’ll know.”
“You can stop this.” She struggled to contain her anger. “You started this; you can end it.”
“I know, but I won’t.”
“You, you—” Enraged, she lifted a hand to slap him.
Joshua caught her hand midair, held it tight. Before she could react, he pushed her back against the wall, pinning her to it with his rigid body. Christy felt every bit of him, his strength, and his physical nature that he never bothered to hide.
“I think I have the perfect answer for all your bottled-up rage,” he said as he parted her thighs with his leg.
“Move,” she ordered, her throat dry and croaky, betraying her increasing apprehension.
Joshua had it easy. He was a man at home with his masculinity. She had never been able to resist him. He could have any woman he wanted. Sometimes, she wondered if he had, especially during their separation. She shouldn’t care if he’d been with anyone else. After all, her goal was a divorce. Still, she couldn’t suppress the intensity of her feelings. Perhaps her anger and hatred drove the concentration of her emotions.
“We have to get a few things sorted out first,” he replied.
He moved closer, his body flush against hers; his chest crushed her breasts, his thighs pressed against hers. Though she wore cotton trousers and a tank top, all of him stroked her.
“What are you doing?” she asked as she pushed against him.
He didn’t budge. “Just trying to relieve some of your frustration. That’s what all your aggression has been about, isn’t it?”
“Rubbish!”
“Such vehement denial, when the evidence is so obvious.”
Her face stung with revealing heat as warm blood rose in her body. Mortified, she tried to move to shake him off, but only managed to get her body even more entangled with his.
Her breathing came in short snatches. She became more aware of Joshua, his hardness and heat.
“I hate you.” Her voice sounded strangled. Blistering white rage swept through her.
“You lie, sweetheart.”
He lowered his head, trailing his lips against her cheeks in a tormenting caress.
“You love me.”
